Thrymskapr and the Healing Spirit of Yoik
September 26-28, 2025
We are honored to announce our first Thrymskapr collaboration with renown Sámi artist and master of yoik— Ailloš
In this three day workshop weekend you will explore healing spirit of yoik singing, craft your own drum, and build community and ritual in the forest of Finland.
Yoik -
The ancient Sami singing tradition, and unique form of cultural expression for the indigenous people of Sápmi. This practice has been handed down orally, and survived the religious oppression of the last centuries.
Iŋgor Ántte Áilu Gaup, also known as Ailloš, is a renowned Sámi musician, composer, actor and teacher. The Sámi are the indigenous people of Sápmi, the lands extending across Central and Northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and the Kola Peninsula of Russia. Ailloš, born and raised in a reindeer herding family on the tundra of far Northern Norway, is a master of yoik – the ancient vocal tradition of the Sami people
In this workshop we dive into the sound and natural world of the yoik with Ailloš. Under his guidance we learn various traditional yoik melodies. We let ourselves be touched by the sounds, practice the vocal technique, and get to know the cultural background of this singing firsthand.
Yoik of the Wind - Sofia Jannok
Thrymskapr Drum Craft-
Experience ancestral Nordic drumming with Heilung drummer—Jacob Lund as your guide, using historical folk-inspired techniques and rhythms.
Craft your own ceremonial drum with traditional materials and methods. The materials are sourced from an indigenous-owned supplier, and the drum that you make is yours to take home.
Immerse yourself in this sacred community for three days of learning, sharing, feasting, dancing, singing, sauna and communing with nature.
